iGate Global Solutions, an integrated technology and operations firm, opened its new ERP (enterprise resource planning) Centre of Excellence (CoE) at its software development facility in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The ERP CoE will focus on iGate's fastest-growing areas such as system integration, business intelligence and ERP testing.

Announcing the launch of the new CoE, iGate's chief delivery officer Mohan Sekhar said, "We have come out with CoEs in J2EE and .NET competencies but this is the first in ERP. The Hyderabad centre is already into a lot of ERP work, and we expect that this strategic investment will help us develop different and innovative solutions that will differentiate us in the ERP market."

The Bangalore-headquartered company plans to develop a chain of CoEs in chosen technology areas across its software development centres. "We plan to focus on about three different areas and ERP is one of them," Sekhar said. The CoEs, as centralised repositories of knowledge and artifacts, would create IP, solutions, tools and R&D frameworks that can be leveraged by iGate's clients, he added.

Raj Lanka, head (Hyderabad development centre), iGate, said, "The ERP CoE can currently accommodate 100 people, and we plan to hire about 60 more people in the next fiscal."

iGate's 65,000-sq ft Hyderabad centre currently employs around 400 IT professionals, and the centre plans to hire 350 more middle management level professionals the coming months. iGate ended the third quarter of the current fiscal with revenues of Rs 165.15 crore.
