Mobile service providers have come under the scanner of civic body for installing towers at various places in Raipur without valid permission.

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) had identified 152 illegal towers of different mobile service providers install across the city. The companies erected the towers without approval from the civic body.

The companies have been given three days time to regularise the illegal towers by completing the official formalities with the corporation, RMC commissioner OP Chowdhary said. The corporation was incurring a loss of Rs 3 crore per annum due to the illegal towers, he said.

While the corporation had served notices on the companies, it had hinted that it would now take stringent action for violating norms. The warning was not on the papers as the RMC officials were quick to act.

The corporation officials disconnected the power supply to two service towers for failing to comply with the notices that had been served earlier. "We are writing to the state power company not to give power connection to the towers that are erected without valid permission of the corporation," Chowdhary said.

While one service providers has swung into action and applied for regularising the illegal towers, two others sought more time from the authorities to take necessary action.
