Ahmedabad-based IndiaNIC Infotech Ltd has become one of the first companies in India to have developed applications for the Apple iPhone. Manoj Onkar, president of IndiaNIC, said: “ Apple enables almost anyone to offer their applications for free or for some charge on iPhone’s online store called Appstore. We are developing applications in areas like health, music, entertainment, games, search tools, social networking, sports, travel, utilities and weather to name a few.”

IndiaNIC acts as the third party for iPhone mobile application development either by porting an existing application or developing one from scratch. So far, the company has developed iPhone applications for around 40 clients comprising individuals and enterprises. “Apple believes it will take about two years for the applications to be popular in the country,” explained Onkar.

Popular among the applications are mood elevation, music composer, games and financial solutions. “Clients approach us with ideas that are connected to IT applications through software by our company. These applications are later uploaded on the online store of iPhone for sale. While some may choose to offer these applications for free, for those who sell it for a price Apple charges a 30 per cent commission,” added Onkar.

IndiaNIC expects the revenue from application development services to be around $1 million (Rs 4.8 crore approx).
