The company will also be adding more than 500 employees to its geospatial solutions division this year. |

Geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system that enables storing, manipulating, analysing, and displaying data in a geographic context. Its applications in a power utility include automated mapping, network analysis and optimisation, energy audit and accounting and logistics management. |

"We already have clients like Noida Power Company Ltd, Tata Power Company Ltd and North Delhi Power Ltd and are now in talks with a few others in this regard," A V Ram Mohan, president-geospatial solutions, Infotech Enterprises Ltd, told Business Standard, while declining to disclose the companies that they were in discussions with. |

"One of the reasons for our increased focus on the Indian power sector is the Centre's Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (APDRP) for improving financial viability of the distribution system. Information technology is a focus area in these reforms of which GIS is a strategic component," Mohan said. |

The Infotech's geospatial services range from technology selection, data audits and data conversion to photogrammetry, data migration and maintenance. |

At present, around 48 per cent of the company's revenues come from the geospatial solutions division and according to Mohan, the company sees a growth of 35 per cent for the division this year. |

Of the over 3,500 people that the company employs, around 2,100 belong to the geospatial solutions division. "We intend to grow by 25 per cent in terms of employee strength this year," he added. |

A large portion of the company's revenues for this division comes from the US and Europe. |

"We plan to expand our client base in India, Australia and the Middle East so as to tap the growing market in these regions," Mohan said. |

Some of the global customers of Infotech in the geospatial area include British Telecom, KPN Telecom, Tele Atlas and Navionics. |
