While CTS made 134 offers, TCS offered 130, Wipro 119 and Infosys 76 as part of the campus recruitment programme. The average salary package offered by these companies is Rs 3.5 lakh a year. The first day saw 72 per cent of the BE students and 55 per cent of the MCA and ME students getting placed of the total 424 students who took part in the placement.
OUCE, incidentally completed the placement process for 2008 recently with Logica, an IT and management consultancy appointing 15 students offering Rs 3.6 lakh a year. Last year, OUCE students secured 555 jobs in the (CRP).
OUCE placement officer V Uma Maheshwara Rao said several IT companies were keen to participate in the CRP. "The IT companies know their manpower requirements at least one year ahead and can plan their recruitments," he said explaining why IT companies were starting the recruitment process early.
"The number of job offers the students got in 2008 increased by 91 (20 per cent more) despite reduced campus recruitments by many companies due to the depreciating dollar and slowdown in the US economy," he said, adding a similar trend was likely this year.
In fact, the US slowdown is also pushing students to look beyond IT. The companies are hinting at about 15 per cent rise in the salary structure to the freshers this placement season, he said.
OUCE allows students to list a few companies as dream companies. The students will be allowed to take the recruitment tests till they get an offer from one of these companies. In case no dream company gives them any offer, the students could accept offers provided by other companies.
