The International Telecommunication Union (ITU)has signed a cooperation agreement with the Turk Telecom group, a private telecom operator in Turkey, at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2010 in Hyderabad.
Under the agreement, Turk Telecom will become an ITU centre of excellence (CoE) and partner in the delivery of ICT training opportunities across Africa, West Asia, and the CIS regions.
“Turk Telecom already has a training academy – Turk Telekom Akademi – through which we will now start educating people on telecom regulations and next-generation telecom technologies. We intend to organise 6-7 events like workshops, face-to-face and distance learning programmes and train about 25 individuals per event this year,” Ugur iLTER, technical training and development manager of Turk Telekom Akademi, said here.
There are more than 60 ITU centres of excellence distributed around the world. In 2009, more than 2,000 individuals were directly trainied through CoE training programmes.
