The Rajasthan government has started putting in place a plan to make Jaipur a WiFi city by providing wireless Internet access throughout the city, as was announced by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in her budget speech earlier this year. |
The project would create a digital infrastructure for an open-air Internet access and would help people make effective use of the wireless technology to achieve their goals while providing a world-class experience for visitors to the city as well. |
"The state government, through the 'Jaipur WiFi City' initiative, aims to strengthen Jaipur's economy and to propel it as a world class city by providing wireless Internet access," a senior state government official said. |
WiFi stands for wireless fidelity and is used to define any of the wireless technology. It is a high frequency wireless local area network through which Internet can be operated without any cable connection. |
To achieve the aforesaid goal, the state government has already sought proposals from various service providers for a 'turnkey solution' for the wireless network. |
The service providers have been asked to submit their profiles including financial and technological strengths, proposed business model and technology approach. |
On the basis of the proposals, the state government proposes to come out with a policy whereby private service providers can set up their wireless network across the city. |
