US-based Lattice Semiconductor Corporation, which launched its sales operations in India last week, is targeting a 15 per cent market share in the programmable logic devices (PLD) segment over the next five years. |
A PLD is an electronic component used to build digital circuits. They are standard, off-the-shelf parts that offer customers a wide range of logic capacity, features, speed, and voltage characteristics. |
They are used in a variety of computing applications. Apart from PLD, Lattice specialises in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLD). Lattice has more than 200 customers in India at present. |
Lattice has been in India since 1996 through distributors with a market share of 10 per cent in the PLD segment. "India is recognised as one of the fastest growing economies in the world. A lot of chip design work is moving into this country. Besides, many MNCs are setting up their offshore development centres (ODCs) here. This has prompted us to launch sales operations in India," Lattice Semiconductor Corporation corporate vice-president (sales) Steve Donovan told reporters here. |
The market for PLD in India is estimated to be around $ 30 million with 20 per cent growth rate over the next five years. |
"Lattice provides the broadest and most feature rich products in the programmable logic industry. The market has responded enthusiastically to our new products so far. We hope to achieve significant growth by concentrating on automobile sector, medical systems, design houses and ODCs of MNCs," he added. |
Donovan said the firm, which recorded $ 62.70 million revenue in second quarter of 2006, does not rule out setting up of an R&D centre in India. |
