Lenovo comes back to India after a year; launches K9, A5 budget smartphones

According to the company's VP, the company had worked with its online sales partner Flipkart to study the dynamics of Indian mobile phone market and consumer demands

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Lenovo on October 16 made a comeback to India’s mobile phone market with the launch of two affordable smartphones – the Lenovo K9 and Lenovo A5. In the last one year, with no launches in the pipeline, the company worked with its online sales partner Flipkart to study the dynamics of Indian mobile phone market and consumer demands, and the new launches are designed based on the learnings.

“Over the past year, we have taken time to assess the robust India market to understand the changing dynamics of the Indian consumer through our partnership with Flipkart. Our extensive research says Indian consumers want a seamless processor, great camera and sleek design among other things. The K9 and A5 have been co-created using Flipkart’s keen insights and taking into consideration our customers’ dynamic requirements. Our range of smartphones are designed to cater to the real need of the evolving Indian consumer,” said Edward Chang, Vice President, Lenovo.

Lenovo K9

The K9 has quad-camera (two each on the back and front), 5.7-inch screen stretched in 18:9 aspect ratio, MediaTek octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and a glass body. The phone’s primary dual camera module has a 13-megapixel primary sensor mated with a 5MP depth lens. Priced at Rs 8,999, the phone will be available exclusively on Flipkart in blue and black colours.

The A5 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ screen stretched in 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be available in black and gold colour options. The dualSIM phone has a dedicated slot for two SIM cards and a microSD card, which supports card of up to 256GB capacity. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MTK MT 6739 quad-core 1.3GHz processor, paired with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage, respectively.  The A5 is priced at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB/16GB variant and Rs 6,999 for 3GB/32GB variant.
