Lyric Labs to acquire Delhi-based translation services firm

Lyric Labs, a global communication enabler, is scouting for a business partner in strategic locations within the country. The company is in the process of acquiring a Delhi-based translation services firm before the end of this April, according to V R Sasidar, its managing director .

He, however, declined to disclose the name of the company and the bid amount for acquiring the same.

The Coimbatore-based company, which offers net-enabled translation services, is looking forward to expand and grow in places such as Hyderabad and Pune.

"We are not looking at software hubs alone. There is tremendous opportunity for such services in the tourism, petrochemical, pharmaceuticals, insurance and banking industries besides the engineering industries and export- oriented textile units in the region," Sasidar told Business Standard.

Since its inception in 1998, the company has helped renowned corporates like Lakshmi Machine Works, Pricol and Shanthi Gears translate their technical, training, marketing manuals and other documents in Indian and foreign languages.

"We employ over 3,000 translators from across the world. They are registered members and their number is growing by the day. Since the job involves translation of technical manuals, we have to ensure accuracy of the content and the work will have to be delivered within the specified time frame," Stanley, joint managing director of the company, said.

Stating that the translators would have to hold a professionally recognised qualification in a translation-related subject and could be specialists in other fields as well, he said the company allowed these translators to translate only in their mother tongue to provide the language its original richness. For instance, a translator from Italy can translate from English to Italy and not vice versa.

"A 'gisted' translation allows the reader to understand the meaning of the original document and determine its relevance to their business," he added. The company has job orders that would run up to 2007.

Earlier in March 2006, Lyric Labs signed a contract with the UK-based Accentra Technologies for their software localisation.

"Accentra is into accounting and pay-roll solutions. They have implemented a solution for a bank in Croatia. They now intend to localise it and make the solution user-friendly. We have agreed to localise their software in foreign languages like Slovenian, Croatian and Arabic," Sasidhar said.

The company has also entered into an agreement with Dubai-based Cherry Advertising Limited for translating the legal documents of the courts of Dubai and other Gulf nations.
