Microland, an IT infrastructure management company, has opened an offshore centre for Serco Solutions, a UK-based public support services firm.

Microland, in a five year-deal, will manage Serco's IT infrastructure backbone, both onsite and from a 22,000 sq ft facility in Electronics City here.

The facility comes with a state-of-the art network operations centre with high speed links to the UK. The centre today has some 100 staff, providing round-the-clock services to the British firm.

Pradeep Kar, Microland's chairman and managing director, said, staff strength will go up to 250 network engineers in a year.

Technologies supported by the centre include various Microsoft Technologies, UNIX, Novell, Citrix, Exchange and Domino Servers, Oracle and SQL Databases, and Network and Security Devices.

Kar said, this trend of remote management of IT infrastructure will become mainstream by 2007. Microland has been providing such services for the last five years, he said.
