Micromax on Thursday launched the Canvas Nitro 2, a smartphone that is powered by 1.4 GHz octacore processor. It sports a five-inch HD IPS display with corning gorilla glass 3 and is loaded with 2 GB RAM.

The Canvas Nitro 2 is an improved version of the Micromax Canvas Nitro. The specifications of the two devices are similar in many respects, and there is little difference in their prices.

The Canvas Nitro 2 has a 13MP primary and 5MP secondary camera, and is paired with a Largan lens and Sony sensor with LED flash. The Nitro 2 has 16 GB of internal memory, against the Nitro’s 8 GB. Both smartphones can support expandable memory of up to 32 GB.

While the Canvas Nitro’s processor was better (it had a 1.7 GHz octacore one), the earlier smartphone had only 1 GB of RAM, compared with 2 GB in the Canvas Nitro 2. Among new features, the Canvas Nitro 2 has on-the-go functionality to help users get access to files, music and pictures from a pen drive.

Running on Android KitKat 4.4, both dual SIM-based smartphones give users the access to voice search, Google Drive, Hangouts for video calls and smart contact prioritisation, among other things.

As for battery, the older model has a higher-power one (2,500 mAh), compared with the Nitro 2’s 2,400 mAh.

The new Canvas Nitro 2 smartphone is priced at Rs 10,990, against the Nitro’s Rs 8,999. The former will be available in Moondust Grey and Pristine White colours, while the latter is being sold in Pristine White and Blue colour.
