Home-grown smartphone maker Micromax on Wednesday launched its flagship Canvas 5, priced at Rs 11,999.

The Canvas 5, an ambitious pre-Diwali release, is Micromax’s first product with a 3-GB RAM and an internal memory expandable to up to 64 GB. The device has 1.3-GHz octa-core processor from Mediatek, another first for the company.

The smartphone, running on the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, has a 5.2-inch screen with metallic frames on sides and a leather black cover. It has a 13-megapixel front camera and an autofocus that the company claims is faster and quicker than normal. The 5-mp front camera has a flash and can take wider selfies, what Micromax has termed widefies.

The phone will be available at major stores from Wednesday evening.

Vineet Taneja, chief executive, Micromax Infomatics said: “With the launch of the Canvas 5 around Diwali, we are introducing our new flagship that will be a game-changer in the smartphone segment, targeting those who don’t want to compromise.”

The company has tied up with Bajaj Finance to run a 12-month equated monthly instalment scheme. Also, a 7-day door-step service will be available for customers.
