Targeting a leadership position within a year of its launch of Xbox 360, a next generation video game and entertainment system, Microsoft's country manager Mohit Anand has unveiled plans to capture the Indian market. |
Anand is buoyed by the sale of 55 lakh Xbox 360 worldwide since its launch in November 2005. |
He said, "To achieve the leadership position we need to have sales of 10 million units. And this we plan to achieve by November 2006 when we complete one year of our launch in the markets of North America, Japan, Europe." Xbox 360 also has an in-built feature for playing live for which the company plans to have a paid subscriber base of 6 million by June 2007," said Anand. |
By 2007 the Xbox 360 will be available in 40 countries. "We plan to foray into Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, South Africa, and India by end of the year," he said, adding that in India the game would be slated for release for the pre-Diwali season. |
The Xbox 360's popularity in India can be gauged from the fact that the company has already collected Rs 50 lakh during the pre-order offer that it had launched on June 9 to coincide with the FIFA fever. |
"We closed advance bookings for the Xbox 360 on July 25 as we achieved our target of getting confirmed orders for 10,000 consoles for which we took an advance of Rs 5,000," said Anand. |
Microsoft is gearing up to meet high expectations of the gaming community within the country. It has appointed Redington as its sales partner which has a sales force of 1,200 people and 61 offices in India. |
"We have a 100 people team working on the project currently. We are targetting 1,100 demo touch points with LCD projectors at retail outlets across India," said Anand. |
"Currently we have 80 hi-definition titles and by next year we will increase our collection to support 160 titles," he said. |
In India the company plans to introduce Xbox 360 with 25 titles and will add 10 new titles every month taking the games library collection to 100 within year. |
