Microsoft partners Guj govt for e-Gram project

To enable effective e-governance under Project Bhasha in the country, Microsoft has partnered with the Gujarat government.
 
Microsoft and the state government, will jointly conceptualise and provide consultancy on making information technology (IT) more user friendly and easy accessible under e-Gram project of the state government.
 
They will also localise software services wherein everything will be available in the regional language - Gujarati, across the state, informed sources in the state government.
 
The e-Gram project will enable easy procurement of documents, transparent access to government and private services while providing equitable opportunities to all villagers.
 
"Microsoft's e-Gram application in Gujarat, which is an attempt towards delivering effective Gujarati based e-governance services in the state, has been one such example towards bridging the digital divide," said sources.
 
The e-Gram application enables citizens to access vital information on birth and death registrations, property records and many more in their native language.
 
This will not only help the government employees but also the citizens of the country located in rural and interior areas who can not operate kiosk installed in their villages due to language problem.
 
"With making operations of kiosks in Gujarati language on each side will make communication more easy and fast," said sources.
 
According to sources, there are over 5,000 state government employees who may not understand English language.
 
"We have made the Gujarati interface an integral part of all official communication including basic services like birth and death certificates, property tax, health and many more which will provide to the villagers through the Gujarati language based kiosks under the e-Gram initiative," he said.
 
This project is a cohesive program for bringing together the governments, academia and research institutions, developers and industry associations on a common ground for backing local language computing.
