MindTree appoints new India ops head

MindTree, a global IT and R&D services company, today announced the appointment of P K Gopalakrishnan as senior vice president and head of its India operations.

In this role, Gopalakrishnan will hold business responsibility for Indian enterprises, defense and government sectors across both IT Services and R&D services businesses. He would also help in building MindTree’s System Integration (SI) capability, which the organization is strongly intent on acquiring along with its existing base of services.

“India has been a key market for us since our inception, and we see it playing an even more important role going forward. Indian enterprises, government and defense establishments offer substantial growth opportunities for us. In fact, they are increasingly looking at partners who can handle large projects for them and provide end-to-end services. In this context, Gopalakrishan, with his rich work experience, will help grow our footprint in the Indian market place immensely,” said MindTree Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Krishnakumar Natarajan.

“I am delighted to be taking over the India operations responsibility at MindTree,” said Gopalakrishnan. “At a time when the Indian market is at its dynamic best, I see a great opportunity for growth, both in the IT Services and R&D services segments. MindTree has marquee Indian customers like Hindustan Unilever, Titan, TVS Motors, ICICI Bank and a few state governments. We will leverage our domain experience in different verticals such as manufacturing, banking, financial services, insurance and travel and transportation to bring innovative solutions to our clients.”

Gopalakrishnan brings with him 23 years of extensive experience in the industry. Prior to joining MindTree, he worked with Wipro, where he was responsible for the government and defense industry vertical in India, which contributed $75 million in revenues in 2007-‘08.
