IT services company MindTree expects its Chennai centre to close the current financial with a revenue of $11-12 million (Rs 50.6-55.2 crore), an increase of 50 per cent compared with last year.
“Chennai is an integral part of our plan to reach our goal of joining the billion-dollar club (in revenue) by 2014. We are developing it into a strategic facility almost independent of our Bangalore operations,” said vice president and centre head Venkatesan Varadarajan.
Last year, the centre registered revenues of around $8 million (around Rs 36.8 crore). Set up in 2007, it has seen an investment of around Rs 120 crore so far. The centre offers IT, research and development, and software product engineering services, among others.
Varadarajan said the company would invest Rs 7-8 crore and increase the headcount to 1,200-1,300 from the current 550. The expansion would happen over the next 4-6 quarters.
One of the major engagements, which the centre took up was outsourced product development and professional services for next generation mobile sales force automation solutions. The solutions, which run on a suite of platforms like tablet PC and mobile phones, help consumer product companies efficiently leverage their retail execution strategy.
It also acts as a disaster recover centre for MindTree.
