Sore fingers, battered knuckles and a bruised ego. That's what used to remain in the end. If you were unlucky, one was also left with a broken keyboard. When I finally got my hands on Mortal Kombat X (Rs 999 for PC), I was particularly interested in playing it with my Xbox 360 controller, which I find easier to use for making combo moves.

While picking the characters, I was a tad disappointed. Only a dozen or so players? Thankfully, my favourites - Scorpion and Sub-Zero were available, and then I was asked to pick a style.

Getting used to the controller's layout took some time; and then I tried remapping some keys, crashing the game. Finally, I started fighting. Like I said, it was violent, with liberal smattering of blood and gore. Only, the gore was in vivid detail, too life-like if I unleashed Fatalities. That's when I chanced on Brutalities, which took the game to a new level. A new feature I liked was X-Ray moves, where one is shown in X-ray vision as the bones snap!

More From This Section

But hey, Mortal Kombat X is much more than a fighting game. It has a story and achievements to be unlocked. While the vivid gory details might put you off, the dropped/frozen frames certainly would. There's multiplayer as well, but my erratic internet connection ensured I couldn't get playable frame rates.

If you've loved this franchise, Mortal Kombat X won't disappoint. But if you can, buy one for the console, for a smoother experience.
