The state-run telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) today said it expects to add three lakh 3G customers by the end of the fiscal.
"We have a mobile customer base of 44 lakh in Delhi and Mumbai at present. We hope to touch 50 lakh base by the end of the current fiscal out of which we hope three lakh will be from 3G services," MTNL Chairman and Managing Director RSP Sinha said here today, while launching more value-added services on its 3G services.
At present, the PSU telco has two lakh customers on its 3G services.
Third-generation mobile services or 3G services enable users faster downloads and video streaming among other value added features.
The public service undertaking, which was quite aggressive on its overseas acquisition front eariler, though has decided to put any such plan in the back burner for the time being.
"We plan to focus in the domestic market and to increase our market share here. We are not focusing on any overseas acquisition plan at the moment," Sinha said.
Shares of MTNL today closed at Rs 74.55, up 0.34 per cent from its previous close on the Bombay Stock Exchange, even as the benchmark Sensex closed down 58 points.
