To provide the information technology (IT) industry security from employee-related frauds, Nasscom plans to introduce self-regulation and internal policing in their business practices. |
It also plans to set up a a database of the employees in the IT and BPO sector that is likely to lend some teeth to the task of verifying employee information at the time of hiring. |
"The database would keep updated information on employees working in the industry and employers would be able verify employee records. The proposal is at an initial stage," Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom, said at the Indo-US cyber security forum legal seminar. |
"We should work together on reinforcement of law and technology to curb increasing cyber crimes and ensuring safety for the cyber community, but the need of the hour is self-regulation and internal policing," he said. |
Expressing concern over the possibilities of cyber crime, Karnik said, "Security of the total network must be strengthened. The number of cyber crimes should be minimised." |
According to him, three information-sharing structures were needed"" within industry, within the government and between the two. "Sharing information helps identify sources and speed up investigations as source of threat and damage are the same," Karnik said. |
According to Sunil Gujral, vice-president, Wipro Spectramind, there should be a pragamtic approach to security. It should be a management initiative and the technology should be people based. |
