New Horizons Inc, USA, has set up shop in Chandigarh, Patiala and Jalandhar.

Abhinav Malik, senior manager (sales, north) of New Horizons, told Business Standard the company would roll out 15 more learning centres, all franchisees, in northern India.

The probable locations would be Amritsar, Ludhiana, Shimla, Jaipur, Lukhnow, Kanpur, Indore, Bhopal and Raipur, he added.

He said with increasing use of computers, the demand for software developers was on the rise.

"Banking, insurance, health, and education have an ever increasing demand for computer programmers," he added.

"With the percolation of the service sector in rural and semi-urban areas, there is a need to provide training to aspirants. So this initiative of the company is aimed at providing computer education to them and secure employment opportunities opening up in their towns," said Malik.

He added this would arrest the flight of skilled people from small towns to the metros. The fees for the courses would range between Rs 500 and Rs 25,000, depending on content and duration, he informed.

A franchisee has to invest Rs 15 lakh approximately in infrastructure and machines. Some investment also goes in seeking licences from the software companies whose courses are run in the centres.

Malik said the company entered the Indian market four years ago and earned credibility by catering for many high-profile ministries at the Centre (external affairs, finance, labour and IT), defence forces and some of the leading companies in India.

Now the company will expand operations by imparting computer education that can be pursued after Class XII and graduation.
