NIIT Technologies has tied up with SAP, the US-based collaborative business solutions provider, to focus on implementing projects in the government and public sector.

Announcing this at NASSCOM 2005, NIIT Technologies chief executive officer Arvind Thakur said the alliance comes at an opportune time for both the companies, with the government investing in enterprise applications and integrating these with government portals.

Alan Sedghi, SAP president and managing director (Indian Subcontinent), said: "State governments in India are increasingly taking advantage of technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness in their operations. This is a sector of major focus for us as we continuously build on our strong momentum here and partnerships is key."

NIIT has completed several projects in the government, defence and public sectors.

This includes assignments for organisations including the Department of Space, National Informatics Centre, State Forest Departments, the Survey of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests, the Geological Survey of India, Reliance Infocomm and CRPF, a para military force in India.

NIIT will provide solutions around the SAP solution suite. SAP for public services is a government specific solution suite and has installations in over 1,500 government departments and agencies worldwide.

It is tailored to the demands of public service agencies and departments and helps enhance process transparency and improve communication with all the key stakeholders both internal and external to the government.
