The impact of the global slowdown would not be felt in the Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) sector.

Deepak Ohlyan, President, Business Process Industry Association and Director – India Facilities, Dell International Services said that the Indian BPO industry  has established itself as a major outsourcing hub.

According to Ohlyan, India’s share of the global offshore outsourcing market for software and back office services is more than 40 per cent. The sector employees more than 7,00,000 people.

Speaking about the positive aspects of the slowdown Ohlyan emphasized that the Indian BPO Industry will not be affected by the US slowdown.

“It is an opportunity for the Industry. However, we may observe few changes with the slowdown as there would be movement beyond voice and customer centric processes,” Ohlyan added.

According to Ohlyan, consolidation will continue and IT outsourcing players will emerge as strong players. Scale and footprint will be the key factors for success in the BPO industry.
