Mobile handset maker Nokia is focusing on increasing the use of bioplastics and recycled material in its handsets. It has already phased out the use of hazardous substances and is working to reduce the use of bromine, chlorine, antimony trioxide and other restricted flame retardants, according to Nokia India corporate affairs director Ambrish Bakaya.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday after announcing its ‘take-back’ programme, he said the company has set a target to reduce the no-load power consumption by 50 per cent by 2010.

The company has moved to smaller packaging, smaller and fewer guidebooks and efficient chargers.
