 The diamond-shaped Nokia 7600 incorporates a 65,000 color screen, weighs 123 grams and measures 87mm x 78 mm x 18.6 mm.

Nokia claims it to be one of the lightest and smallest phones in the world using the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) standard.

It also houses a VGA camera that can capture pictures and video clips with audio of up to 2.5 minutes each.

It also has an MP3/AAC music player, said the statement.

Music and other multimedia content can be downloaded using mobile services while on the move or locally from a compatible PC via infrared, Bluetooth or USB connection while the XHTML browser allows users to browse the Web.

Other features include polyphonic ring tones, support for Java applications and a data connection speed of up to 384 kilobits per second in WCDMA high-speed network, which operators using the GSM are expected to adopt.

In a WCDMA network, users can also send and receive video clips and pictures, even during a phone call.

The phone operates in GSM900, 1800 and WCDMA networks and is expected to be available in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific in fourth quarter of 2003, the statement said.

The phone has talk time of up to 4 hours in GSM networks and up to 2.9 hours in WCDMA, and stand-by time is up to 12.5 days in both networks.

WCDMA is a third-generation mobile wireless technology offering much higher data speeds and better quality of service to mobile and portable wireless devices than current mobile networks.

In June this year, Nokia launched its first WCDMA phone, the 6550 in Europe.

However, the Finnish phone maker's maiden attempt was met with complaints about poor battery life and reliability.
