The Centre for e-Governance, Government of Karnataka in collaboration with OnMobile Global Ltd., a provider of telecom value-added services (VAS), has launched the Phase 1 (Pilot) of the mobile governance services for the citizens of Karnataka.
OnMobile is providing the platform and services to help launch and manage the pilot phase of the project on m-Governance. This initiative is intended to enable citizen services on the mobile phone by means of an integrated mobile-enabled service delivery system.
With this m-Governance offering, OnMobile hopes to help the government create an ecosystem that will assist departments offer their services to citizens on the mobile and also encourage innovation in the mobile utility services space.
OnMobile has provided the technology platform for helping design, develop and manage different governance services over mobile, across channels such as Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and mobile browsers or WAP.
Some services introduced in the pilot phase include information services like Sakala services (in-time services); utility services like electricity, water, and BSNL landline and mobile bill payments; traffic services like bus routes and timing information, and traffic alerts service and pending traffic fine payments. The platform offers payment of utility bills through multiple channels including credit card, bank accounts using IMPS among others.
OnMobile will continue to work with the Government of Karnataka as part of the pilot phase to launch more information based and interactive services under the Government to Citizen, Government to Government, Government to Business and Government to Employee categories, a company statement said.
