For Chandigarh-based organisations in key industries requiring world-class support and services to manage their business and IT infrastructure, there is good news. Oracle India now has a presence in Chandigarh.

The Chandigarh representative of Oracle India will be covering Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Baddi.

"In the future, if we see huge demand in Ludhiana, we may even have our company representative who will enhance service and support in the region," said Anup Varma, regional director (mid market technology).

Talking of setting up an office and expanding the team in the region, Varma said at this juncture he did not see the need now but was not ruling out the possibility, either. "We are looking to address the needs of the pharmaceutical and the manufacturing sectors (primarily retail and automotive) here," he said.

The company has selected ten partners who have the domain knowledge to address the needs of manufacturing companies in Chandigarh and who have knowledge of Oracle's products.

"Robustness, reliability and low cost were the factors which led our company to use Oracle's database in Baddi and Guna (Madhya Pradesh) for the past 12 years," said Harish Kulshreshta, IT head of Deepak Spinners Ltd.

He was one of the 130 customers from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana who had come to Chandigarh to participate in the Oracle mid market expansion road show.

After making its presence in Chandigarh, the company is heading towards Jaipur, Indore, and Lucknow. It is set to strengthen its presence in non-metro cities. The company has plans to expand its base from the existing six locations (including metros) to 15 cities by the year end. The other cities include Coimbatore, Kochi, Vishakapatnam, Ahmedabad, and Pune.

With the largest set-up outside the US, Oracle India employs 8,600 people. The number employed in the US is approximately 50,000.
