Over 300,000 students took the test across the country. So far, the section which featured questions with multiple-choices had negative marking like the other three sections in the first phase of IIT-JEE. |
"The step to remove negative marking in section two has really helped us attempt a few more questions. The average number of questions attempted by the students has gone up from 40-50 out of the total 69 questions in the first phase," said Aditya Bhatt, an IIT aspirant who wants to pursue a career in computer science. |
The other minor change in the paper pattern was the removal of the 'match the following' segment, which came as a disappointment for the students. |
"In the first phase, we were expecting 'match the following' as one of the type of questions, since it makes our attempt easier," added Bhatt. |

According to tutorial classes based in Ahmedabad, the difficulty level had, however, seen a bit of a rise as compared with last year. |
"There were less number of direct and formula-based questions and more number of concept based questions. Even our faculty had a tough time solving some of these questions," said RT Dargar, owner of Cambridge classes for IIT-JEE. |
