Will work on devices like connected TVs, IP set top boxes, mobile internet devices and media phones.
Persistent Systems, an outsourced software product development services player, said that it has now made available an accelerator for rapid integration of Skype video calling.
This solution accelerator will work on embedded devices such as connected TVs, IP set top boxes, mobile internet devices, media phones and more.
This accelerator is developed by Persistent’s multimedia technology group, and is based on Skype’s SkypeKit SDK, and addresses complex challenges of enabling Skype video calling on a wide variety of embedded devices with diverse use cases.
It has has been successfully ported on several tier one OEM (original equipment manufacturer) chip sets running on Android and Linux operating systems, for IP-STB, connected TV, and Internet multi-media device applications.
"Skype has revolutionised the audio and video communication experience over the Internet. With the proliferation of 3G and 4G networks and broadband Internet, it is estimated that the VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) user base would exceed 100 million by 2012, with Skype commanding a sizeable market share. With our solution accelerator, OEM’s can now rapidly integrate Skype into their solutions, while complying with Skype’s stringent performance requirements," Sachin Kurlekar, head, Persistent Multimedia Group said.
Persistent’s Skype video solution kit includes portability across operating systems, processor platforms (ARM/MIPS/x86 core based platforms), feature complete reference of Skype GUIs developed in Qt,
