The personal computer (PC) market crossed yet another milestone with sales touching 10.5 lakh units in the April-June quarter of 2005-06.HP retained the number one position in both notebooks and consumer desktop category, according to analyst firm IDC.The PC market witnessed a 9% sequential and 31% year-on-year growth to touch 10.5 lakh units, according to a IDC report titled India Quarterly PC Market Tracker.HP retained its top slot with a sequential increase of 19% and a year-on-year growth of 45%. While HCL was steady at the second position with a YoY growth of 40%, Lenovo (IBM PCs) occupied the third position, the report said."The clearing of the cloud over VAT, drop in prices on account of rationalisation of duty structures and the onset of summer vacations were key contributing factors to the growth displayed by the segment," Dinender Sharma, manager (computing products) of IDC India, said.
