Red Hat, a leading provider of open source to the enterprise, entered into a partnership with Hyderabad-based Lotus Learning Systems Society (LLSS) to promote open source in education in schools. |
The initiative is stated to be part of Red Hat's commitment to modernise the Indian education systems by promoting learning through information technology and usage of open source technology as a platform for learning. |
LLSS, an organisation operating educational institutions, will deploy Red Hat's open source programmes in its chain of schools. |
According LLSS founder K Renuka Raju, the society's partnership with Red Hat is a joint initiative to modernise the Indian education system using open source software. |
The open source software model is based on collaboration, community and sharing of intellectual resources and can effectively promote learning and innovation through IT. |
Javed Tapia, president of Red Hat Indian Subcontinent, stated that open source would give schools flexibility and control over their IT infrastructure and freedom from expensive licensing schemes. |
"Open source also helps in building a participative community of educationists and technologists. It is, therefore, the way forward, for India's education system and we are pleased to partner with a progressive organisation like Lotus Learning Systems Society to take this initiative forward," Tapia stated in a press release here. |
