After auctioning, shopping and railway bookings, mobile handset commerce today ventured into yet another first in India area, with the launch of airline bookings through mobile phones.

Reliance Infocomm has joined hands with Indian Airlines to offer mobile airticket bookings to its customers at a monthly cost of Rs 25. To begin with, the bookings will be available against full fares and all easy fair options.

"The hassle-free booking involves the user entering the origin and destination points and the date of travel, following which, full and discounted fares in economy and executive classes are displayed on the mobile screen.

The user then has to select the fare and payment mode and book the ticket. The PNR is displayed on the mobile screen and the ticket can be collected at the airport or an Indian Airlines office by producing the PNR and photo identification," said Reliance Infocomm CEO, Delhi Circle, Navneet Saluja.

"As a national carrier, our aim is to provide services to customers and expand our reach," Indian Airlines Director, Commercial, Anil Goyal said, while adding the carrier would look at international ticket booking via mobile phones at a later stage.
