Reliance Infocomm announced the launch of Talking Message Service (TMS), a short voice message service, under which all Reliance mobile users would be able to send voice messages from Reliance mobiles to other mobile phones, fixed wireless phones or landline.

A company statement said that TMS is operator-independent and technology agnostic. Users of BSNL/MTNL landline can also receive a TMS, so can any GSM or any other CDMA customer, it added.

To use the service, Reliance customers will have to dial 1234111 from their phone (mobile or hello) and follow the voice prompts to record the message and send it to any mobile or landline number, nationwide. The recipient will get a message on their mobile alerting of an incoming 'talking message.'

After receiving the alert, customers will get a call playing back the talking message from the sender of the message with sender's phone number.

If the recipient is a reliance customer, and is busy and does not want to take the talking message call at the moment, they have the convenience of retrieving the talking messages later, which are stored for 24 hours, by calling 1234111.

If the recipient is a landline customer, he/she will receive calls, which will playback the message. All calls made to 1234111 to record or retrieve a talking message are charged Rs 2 per minute.

TMS is an easier option for people in smaller towns and cities where English has been the biggest deterrent in attracting users to the world of SMS. It removes any language barrier or the trouble of typing, said the statement.
