Reliance Infocomm today launched wireless Internet in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to provide voice and data coverage along the national and state highways and in rural areas. |
Launching the Internet service, Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Infocomm Himanshu Kapania said that 428 towns and 20,000 villages would be covered in the two states and Chandigarh by September this year. Once completed, the company will offer one of the biggest wireless Internet penetrations in the region, he claimed. |

Almost all Reliance wireless products, including Reliance India Mobile and fixed wireless phone have an inbuilt modem and are capable of providing Internet connectivity at speeds up to 144 kbps, he said. |

Kapania also held that Reliance was already providing coverage in 334 towns of punjab (200), Haryana (113) and Himachal Pradesh (21) and would add another 96 towns by September. 19,898 villages and 3,940 km of the national highways in the three states were also covered by its network, he added. |

The monthly charges ranged between Rs 650 and Rs 900 with some free data download. Besides, in the zero commitment plan, usage charges of 50 paise per min during the day and 25 paise per minute during the night would be applicable, Business Head of Data Products, Rajpal said. |
