There is something unique about all sports – a spirit of unity that brings people together to cheer for what they support. We often get a glimpse of it among friends or strangers at workplaces, eateries, clubs, or any other place where a live match is being screened.
Ever wondered how it would be if common interests and sport fandom were to unite random people separated by distance or want of acquaintance? How about some ‘social sports networking’? After all, sitting alone curled in a couch as you watch a match of your favourite team or player can be boring!
You can use social sports app Rooter to get yourself in touch with sports enthusiasts around the world with similar interests and liking. Apart from basic features like real-time updates and event facts, the app offers a 360-degree engagement experience to fans, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in their most ardent passion – sports!
Business Standard took a close look at the app and its features and here are some of the observations:
Getting started
Once you have downloaded the app from Play Store, you can log in using your Facebook, Twitter or Google accounts. The app requires permissions to access contacts and user profile, so user discretion is required. Once logged in, the app offers you the option to customise your experience in accordance with the sports of your liking.
Customisation
Once you are logged in, the app shows you various sports, along with a list of events that the app covers for a particular sport. For example, the first tab shows cricket as a main sport category and events like BPL, Big Bash T20, Indian Premier League, etc, as the optional categories to choose from on the basis of your interest.
The various sports options can be toggled by swiping the screen left and right. Overall, there are four major sports covered in the app – cricket, football, tennis and basketball.
After you select the sport of your choice, along with an event, the app moves to another window that provides the option to customise team preferences. You can select your team based on your interest and finish customisation to jump to the final window of the app.
Home screen, prediction and other features
Having set up the app, you now get to see the home screen, which reflects information based on your customisation. The app shows the latest event details with the option to make predictions. You can predict an event’s outcome using coins (50 coins for new users). For every right prediction, you earn more coins. There is an option to make pre-match prediction as well.
Another interesting feature of the app is the Rooter forum, where you can chat with like-minded sports enthusiasts. This allows you to befriend people who share your liking in a sport. Also, you can see all active Rooter users and their event preferences.
Conclusion
Overall, the app is fairly simple to navigate and seems to offer what it promises. The experience of socialising with people using digital means is in itself fun, but the fact that this social networking is taking place with fans of the same sport, with similar choices, makes it all the more interesting. However, all that you might find missing in the app is the real-life experience of cheering and shouting out aloud for your team.
