S Tel, the latest player in the crowded mobile market of Himachal Pradesh today said it now had 100,000 subscribers in the hill state in only 50 days.
“Our target was to achieve 100,000 subscribers in one year but have achieved the target in barely 50 days after launching our services in the state,” said CEO of S Tel Shamik Das.
“We are the only mobile firm to achieve this target, even though we were the last to enter among the nine or so players in the state. We now have a presence in nine of the twelve districts of the state,” Das said.
The company’s Rs 1,499- plan is the most popular and it includes 60 minutes of local calls free daily for one year.
The company is cutting costs by doing most of the operations inhouse.
S Tel is a joint venture between Siva group, a Delhi-based company and Bahrain telecom (Batelco), a Bahrain-based telecom company.

Siva group has the controlling stake and is a $3- billion firm with diversified business interests from wind energy to shipping, education and agri business.
Batelco has operations across West Asia, North Africa and Asia.
