Even though the Indian government is in not favour of unrestricted use of social media platforms from internal security point of view, the draft policy formulated by the government has proposed the use of social media platforms to improve governance.
But what could be one of the most innovative ways of using social media, Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the prime minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations is holding a press conference on Twitter. This is said to be the first ever press conference on Twitter in India.
He will discuss on 'democratization of information’ in this virtual press conference. “Join us on Tuesday, 25th Sep at 3:30 PM IST for the first ever #press conference on #Twitter in India on "Democratisation of Information," tweeted Pitroda who is widely considered to have been responsible for India’s communications revolution.
Despite of having the limitations of wordage (just 140 character), Twitter seems to be emerging out as the most powerful medium of politicians, industrialists and think-tanks to express their views of various issues, especially on policy matters.
Pitroda’s example of using the micro-blogging platform for holding a press conference may well set an example of how to using such platforms for holding virtual press conferences going forward.
Recently, Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat had a live chat with millions of people via Google Plus Hangout.
