Samsung pilots solar mobile charging units in Bengaluru

Korean mobile maker Samsung on Wednesday said it is piloting solar mobile charging units at its exclusive outlets in Bengaluru for individuals to recharge their smartphones.

A charging dock is connected to a pole that has a solar panel and any smartphone user an charge their phones at these units kept outside the outlets.

Samsung India's Vice President, Marketing, IT and Mobile Asim Warsi said it was piloting the concept in Bengaluru, but did not elaborate on national plans.

Samsung, which claims market leadership in smartphones in Bengaluru, expects users to utilise the charging units, while it benefits from the branding that it does for the units.

Warsi said Samsung has invested Rs 517 crores in its plant in Noida to make phones for the local market. The firm has a presence in India for over 20 years with two manufacturing plants and three research and development units.

Samsung launched its Galaxy S6 edge+ smartphone in the country.
