Chennai-based Sanra Software Limited has launched its new anti-virus software 'Rudra' which makes use of the intent-based technology that protects a PC not only from known viruses but also from malware.

Addressing a press conference here, Sanjay Bhardwaj, chief executive officer of the company, said that unlike the existing signature-based and heuristics-based technologies, 'Rudra' identifies and removes all viruses from PCs in their signature-unknown state itself.

Elaborating on this, he further said that since the product is not a signature-based technology, the system does not require constant updates and there will be no slowdown even when the detection of malware is in progress.

The product has been certified by the union ministry of Information Technology and is yet to be patented. Rudra will be commercially launched in January 2006.

At present, the product is available for Windows clients and will be available for Linux and Mac by mid 2006, according to N Baskar, managing director. However, he declined to comment on the pricing of the product.

The company will soon develop such solutions for hand-helds and smart devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA) and mobile phones by the middle of 2006.
