Google intends to extend the service to India as a pilot though it did not give a definite timeframe.

“India being a strategic market, we plan to launch the service here as well. However, because it has been launched as a pilot, currently, we would not be able to name a date for the launch right now,” said a Google India spokesperson.

“Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail,” wrote software engineer Robin Schriebman on the official Google blog adding that the service would be an additional feature of the present computer-to-computer voice and video chat services.

An option will be addedto the chat list in Gmail, and will offer a traditional-style on-screen keypad.
