Sony India aims to double its VAIO brand sales in India to 5 lakh laptops and is eyeing 20% market share in the country's notebooks market in the current year, a top company official said today.
"We are targeting 20% market share in notebooks market in India in current year, as compared to our 15% market share last year," Sony India Managing Director Masaru Tamagawa told reporters on the sidelines of a press conference here.
Last year, Sony sold 2.5 lakh notebooks which are expected to go up to 5 lakh notebooks this year. The consumer notebook market in India stood at 17 lakh units last year and is expected to increase to 25 lakh units this year, he said.
Sony India also announced its strategy to double its VAIO brand sales in India by selling 5 lakh laptop units this year. VAIO is already the fastest growing laptop brand in India, with more than 100% growth and the new product line-up will ensure that it becomes even closer to the Indian audience.
For VAIO category, Sony has earmarked a budget of Rs 50 crore towards marketing activities this year. Out of this, Rs 25 crore has been allocated for its new campaign, Tamagawa said.
"VAIO contributes 20% to the total sales revenue of Sony India and is hence a very important part of our business. This year, our objective is to ensure that we offer a VAIO to meet the lifestyle requirements of every customer. We have an exciting product line-up of 62 models," he said.
The company also plans to scale up the distribution network of 1,500 outlets from the present 800. The company also plans to open 30 exclusive VAIO flagship stores this year, taking the total number to 50 as a dedicated VAIO channel.
Talking about the new brand campaign, Tamagawa said, "'More colour. More Style.' campaign is all about making a lifestyle statement and with film star Kareena Kapoor as the face of this campaign, we hope it will resonate well with our customers."
