There's something about Sony's Xperia Z series. With each upgrade, you get a feeling of "been there, done that", yet they manage to leave an impression. With its latest offering - Z5 Dual - the brand is set to give rivals in the high-end phone category a run for their money.
The review unit I received came in a deep green frosted glass colour. The shade of the colour enhanced the looks of the phone. The 5.2-inch full HD screen delivers good clarity but it's something one does expect of a premium phone. Frankly, it doesn't feel like a high-end phone.
A slightly longish button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner replaces the round Sony trademark button. The camera button and volume rocker are on the lower right hand side which take time to get used to.
The Z5 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 and is powered by 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810. The 3GB of RAM ensures that multitasking is a breeze, though while gaming, the phone did heat up quite a bit.
The stamina and intelligent mode for the battery are handy features on the Z5. While the battery life was a bit disappointing, putting the phone on either of the two modes ensures that it lasts longer.
The Z5 Dual retails at Rs 52,990 which is steep. Though it doesn't look like a phone that belongs in the above-Rs 50,000 bracket, it does deliver impressive performance. If a camera is all you look for in a smartphone, the Z5 will certainly have you charmed.
Sony certainly has an ace up its sleeve with the Z5.

The camera is the biggest change from the previous Z series phones. The Z5 comes with a 23-megapixel (MP) rear camera and an extremely quick autofocus feature. This is undoubtedly the best feature as it can focus and capture image in 0.03 seconds. Low-light images are captured better than any other phone I've used recently. Though the only issue is it takes too long to start up. Otherwise, the image quality is extremely sharp in all conditions.
