The India Chapter of Society for Technical Communication (STC)'s India chapter is organising it's 10th annual conference in Pune on 12th and 13th December 2008 here at hotel Le Meridien and a pre-conference workshop on the 11th. This is the third time the conference is being held in Pune. The last one was held in the year 2003 which saw 170 participants taking part in it.
Pune is expected to play host to the technical communication fraternity from across the world and India. This year so far already 150 entries have been registered and at least 250 participants are expected.
"Technical writing is a rapidly growing profession in India and the demand for technical writers is huge while the supply is not. This is quite an unconventional career and the awareness levels about this field are low.," Makarand Pandit, programme manager of the conference told Business Standard.
During the conference, issues like salaries of technical writers will be addressed. A salary survey is also being conducted, the findings of which will enable the companies to match up the salaries of their employees.
Job booths will be setup where candidates will be able to learn of better prospects and available vacancies. Interviews are also slated to be conducted here.
STC is a 58 year old body and its India chapter was established in 1999. STC is a professional association that advances the arts and sciences of technical communication. Its members include technical writers, editors, graphic designers, multimedia artists, and the like whose work involves transforming technical information into easy and understandable to those who need it.
