Tata Indicom to roll out global roaming by April

Tata Indicom is set to launch its international roaming services in 186 countries across the globe. It has tied up with 291 GSM operators and five CDMA operators for the service. The company is rolling out the services, termed 'One World, One Number', by end April.

The company is launching the service for its post-paid subscribers using T-SIM, a dual mode SIM, that enables customers to avail the services of both GSM and CDMA networks.

This facility would also enable the company to offer roaming in all geographies that use different wireless standards, Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) Chief Technical Officer Greg Young told Business Standard here today.

Tata Indicom is the brand under which Tata group telecom companies - TTSL, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd and Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) - offer telephony services.

The companies are currently offering roaming to all its customers within its network in the country, and international roaming is being offered to augment its service offerings across the globe, he said.

The service would also enable Tata Indicom users to use and retain one number even while criss-crossing the world. The company is also extending this facility to its existing users.

SMS, voice mail and "competitive tariff" are the other features offered under the service.

Tata Indicom has a subscriber base of 8.5 million across India, with a national footprint across 2,511 towns. In Andhra Pradesh, it has crossed the one million subscriber-mark and is looking at doubling the number within a year.
