Tata Consultancy Services has announced that it had made job offers to over 2,000 students from 16 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu in the last fortnight. |
The company has offered jobs to about 1,500 students in two days from four engineering colleges that include PSG Technology, Coimbatore (421 offers), Government College of Technology, Coimbatore (363), Coimbatore Institute of Technology (237) and Vellore Institute of Technology (525). |

Over the last 15 days, 6,900 candidates went through the written test, of which 3,267 qualified for the interview round and finally 2,034 students were offered jobs. The company used a multi-layer selection process that included testing and evaluation involving 100 TCS consultants and 125 interview panels. |

The 2,000-plus students are expected to join the company by June 2007. TCS is also planning campus-hiring in 15 more colleges in the state in the next 20-30 days. It currently has 15,372 employees in the state. |

Addressing a press conference via a video-conference from New Jersey, US, TCS executive vice-president and head (global human resources) S Padmanabhan said that the company had plans to hire 7,500 in Tamil Nadu this year as against 4,500-5,000 last year. |

The company has also raised the salaries by 10 per cent for the entry-level jobs during this year. It now offers an annual salary package of over Rs 2.36 lakh to under-graduate engineering students and Rs 2.70 lakh to postgraduate engineering students for the entry-level jobs. |

"These institutes are very important constituencies for us. We have created a faculty development programme to transform the knowledge of the company to the faculty of these institutes who, in turn, will train the students who may or may not join TCS," Padmanabhan added. |

The training programme for these students will focus on upgradation of skills in software engineering, global practices of soft skills and understanding of technology space in which they will be working. |
