Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is looking at a long-term manpower pool of about 7,000-10,000 professionals for its Bhubaneswar centre, said S Ramadorai the company’s chief executive officer and managing director.
"Tier-III locations like Bhubaneswar have the potential to drive the next phase of growth for the IT industry. The new campus in Bhubaneswar reiterates our commitment to the development of new centres in smaller locations to enhance the suitability of talent pool as well as drive inclusive growth", he added.
Ramadorai was speaking at the inauguration of the first tower of TCS Kalinga Park, spread over an area of 45 acres in the Infocity area. The first unit of the TCS campus in the city will be manned by 1,002 employees and the software major aims to ramp up the headcount to 7,000-10,000 in phases.
He said, TCS Bhubaneswar centre is India’s first LEED- leadership in energy and environmental design- weighted IT campus and the company will seek platinum certification for the property soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Naveen Patnaik the Orissa chief minister said, "TCS has inaugurated its development centre in the city despite the prevailing economic downturn. The financial reforms of the state government coupled with a progressive information and communications technology has helped attract IT investors to the state."
SN Patro, the state minister for IT, energy and culture said, The Orissa government is going ahead with the Infocity-II project to be developed over an area of more than 600 acres and this project is expected to be fully commissioned by 2012.
"The state’s IT department’s focus is on IT development and research. We are aiming at software exports of about $1 billion from Orissa over the next five years", said Pradipta K Mohapatra, the state IT secretary.
