TCS to scale headcount

To recruit 5,000 in Chennai

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) expects to add 13,500 employees, 5,000 of whom will be recruited in Chennai during the current fiscal.
 
Addressing media persons on the launch of its insurance solutions centre in Chennai, Ravi Viswanthan, vice president- Chennai operations, TCS, said that the company is focusing on creating solutions centre for a specific vertical in metropolitan cities.
 
The other specialised solutions centre in Chennai will be telecommunication, retail, banking and financial services, he added.
 
The company has an existing employee base of 45,000 of which about 12,000 employees are employed in Chennai.
 
Chennai is the largest centre in terms of contribution to revenue as well as employee base.
 
Ravi said that the newly launched insurance solutions centre in the city, will be an anchor centre for the insurance vertical for the company. The total investment in setting up the centre has been Rs 20 crore, he added.
 
TCS' insurance vertical contributes over 12.5 per cent of the company's revenue. It reported a consolidated revenue of $2.24 billion for the fiscal ending 2005. The company works with over 70 insurers and reinsurers globally and has 4,000 associates as part of the insurance practice.
 
K Padmanabhan, vice president and head of insurance practice, TCS, said, "TCS offers an insurance consulting supermarket providing innovative and specialised solutions to customers in a partnership mode, leveraging its delivery excellence and domain expertise."
 
Satish Varma, head of the insurance solutions centre, TCS, said, that this will enable the company to provide transformational, end-to-end solutions to the customers with quality, on time and on budget.
