IT peripherals and consumer electronics brand Techcom India is eying a 3 per cent market share in the low-end mobile handset segment.
Launching its range of GSM mobile handsets in Andhra Pradesh, Techcom director Ajay Kedia, said, “We are targeting 3-4 per cent market share in the handset industry by this year end.” Its handsets, priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 4,000 is targeted at youth.
According to a recent survey, the Indian mobile handset market stood at 13 million per month, which would grow to 18 million by 2012. Of this, Indian mobile brands enjoy around 14 per cent market share.
The Delhi-based company had entered into the mobile handsets market in December last year. So far, it has launched its marketing services in 20-15 states in the country and handsets in six states, including AP.
It would invest Rs 100 crore for brand building exercise in the next three years, of which Rs 10 crore would be for the AP market. The company would also add 30 distributors to the existing 20 and set up 30 service centres in the state, Vikas Goel, branch head (AP), Techcom, said.
It would develop aftersale service platforms in regional markets including Kurnool, Nandyal, Adoni, Warangal, Guntur, Kakinada, Kadapa, Vijayawada, Anantpur, Vishakhapatnam, Tirupati and Rajahmundry in six months.
