Teams playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL)are harnessing technology for that extra edge.

Bangalore-based Sporting Minds, a product and application development firm, has come out with an analytical cloud-based application that analyses matches and players’ performances in real time. Sanjay Krishnan, chief executive officer, Sporting Minds, said, “The application can measure the performance of every batsman against every bowler. For instance, one can see a ball-by-ball account of how Sachin Tendulkar played against Sreesanth with a video playback option as well.”

The application christened 22 Yards is developed on Microsoft Windows Azure platform and provides real time analysis to players on how they played and where they can improve claims Krishnan. He has managed to sell his software to two of the IPL teams, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Internationally, technology has been aiding sportsmen and sports teams for a long time now. All major football teams scrutinise opposition before matches through similar softwares. Even golfers use technology to get a better idea of the course they are tee off on.

Mumbai-based software firm Paramatrix, has also made a cricket-based analytical software for Rajasthan Royals, which the team has used since the last two years. Paramatrix’s software, Action 1.0, 1.2, has been adopted by The Board of Control for Cricket in India, or BCCI, in India as well. The application has features like live match video edits with customisation that allows video compression in different formats and type, parallel video plays and analysis.
