Tegic Communications today announced that a new, enhanced version of the popular T9 text input software in Hindi was available.

Tegic's T9 predictive software helps users of mobile phones and portable digital assistants (PDAs) to write SMSes quickly in 49 languages, including five Indian languages, and enjoy wireless data services.

This new version of the Hindi T9 software offers users advanced word completion functionality, enabling mobile users to press just a few keys to pull up the desired word.

Further, stem locking, which allows users to highlight the first few characters of a word to trim down the word choice list, helps users to more quickly identify and complete their intended word.

The current SMS boom in the Indian market can be compared with Europe's texting surge six years ago.

While mobile phone usage in India is just five percent, or nearly 60 million users, according to the Cellular Operators Association of India, the telecom market in the subcontinent of more than one billion people is now growing at two million new subscribers per month.

"As India's mobile market grows, we will continue to offer language and text entry enhancements that users need to communicate most effectively in their daily lives," said Mridul Srivastava, Senior Country Manager (India), Tegic Communications.

"As more and more Indians become mobile phone subscribers, we're pleased to be able to make it easier SMS," he added.

T9 Text Input, a leading alphabet-based Chinese, Japanese and Korean character-based text input software, is the flagship product of Tegic Communications, and is available in 49 languages.

By incorporating T9 Text Input into mobile communications products, companies are solving the fundamental problem of typing and sending text messages quickly.

More than 800 mobile phone models available throughout the world today include the T9 Text Input, and the technology has been licensed to major consumer electronics and communications equipment manufacturers worldwide.
